Favorite Camp: Ponil
It had showers, no cooking because of the Chuck Wagon Dinner and Breakfast. The Cantina with cold "Root Beer" was great.
Worst Camp: Harlan
Harlan Camp was Dusty, Windy and the water was far away from camp.
Worst Thorn: Carrying extra gear for an ill crew member
It wouldn't have been so bad but the extra gear was heavier than most. 2 pound sneakers. etc,
Best Rose: Loading our own shotgun shells and shooting them
It was interesting to learn how to load our own shells. Then be able to do it and get to shoot the shells later.
Favorite Trail Lunch: Ritz crackers and pepperoni sticks
I liked the Ritz crackers. The Pepperoni sticks were the best, but we only had them once.
Favorite Trail Dinner: The ones with the mashed potatoes
We had two meals with mashed potatoes with ham that were very good.
Favorite Trail Breakfast: Fruit by the Foot
Some of the breakfast meals contained Hot Chocolate and Oatmeal. Since we ate on the trail on most mornings it was not practical to heat water. Some of the breakfast contained some very tasty cold drink mixes. The grape and orange were my favorites.
Favorite Activity Shotgun shooting
I hit three out of five in the trap shooting
If I went again I would bring... A better pillow
I brought a trail pillow but it collapsed to nothing. I needed a bit more support.
If I went again I would not bring... The cold weather clothing
It was warm on most nights and never needed the long sleeve shirt or the long john pants.
Would I go again? Yes
I would like to try some of the other activities offered at Philmont.
Activities I would like to see on the next Trek: Panning for gold, Mountain Biking and Black Powder rifle shooting
